Make it stand out

When it comes to making your website make money out of Internet advertising, there’s nothing more important than making it stand from the crowd. You have to keep in mind at all times that you’re up to the most fierce competition in history, and that you have the most demanding users ever. The modern internet user isn’t as forgiving with websites as they used to be ten years ago. It used to be that any website that wasn’t professionally made looked a little strange and was very simple. I remember some personal websites made in Microsoft Word that were just that: a page of text with images and hyperlinks. But nowadays, making a professional looking website is easy if you use templates and, therefore, a lot of people have good looking web pages. This means that it’s time to step up the game and make sure you’re making the most out of your website.

The overall design needs to be consistent in two ways: visually and in terms of user accessibility. Remember that what you put out there is what people will click on. So the best part of your website needs to be in sight – a lot like a store window. Having the front page of your website be your contact details or a long text will make a lot of the users just think “next” and click away from it. Studies have shown that internet users put a clear and appealing design before interesting content. The same boring wall of text becomes readable if there are pictures accompanying the text, and the most interesting website becomes totally unreadable if the color scheme is wrong.

When it comes to advertising, be it simple banners or a more complicated ad network, you need to maximize the space as well. When it comes to ads, less is more. In fact, the least they look like ads, the best. You have to cater to the user and give them adverts that they want to see, otherwise it will be a waste of their time and a waste of space in your website.

Finally, make it accessible. If you have a blog on gadgets, make it possible for recurrent visitors to know when you post a new article right away. If you have a personal blog, find others with similar themes and interests and link them to yours. Put the word out there as much as you can, and it will be worth it.
